Fantasy football is here.

24 08 2009

Last year i got into a league with Mr. Mullins and got my butt whooped. I talked to ali and he has a pretty good squad this year. I probably wont be playing but if i were i think my top picks would be Adrian Peterson at runnign back, Larry Fitzgerald at receiver and its a wild card but i would pick up Vick too! I haven’t keep up much with whose out there. I think Favre would be a good choice just given his track record. Last year with the Jets her threw over 3,000 yards. I personally think he should have left after the Packers era. But i can understand getting replaced by Aaron rodgers has to hurt a little. Not to take anyhting away form the guy he is the veteran qb of the NFC east now but i doont think he’s no Favre. I’ll be watching closely this season because next year im going to strike with a vengeance.

Web safe colors

18 08 2009

Hey everyone I’ve spent sometime looking for colors and what works best with what I want. I don’t have tons of time to go through photoshop and try and figure all this out. My best friend google proved to be very helpful once again and I have found a site that provides web safe color codes with samples. Hope this can be useful to everyone.

Positioned elements in css

12 08 2009

In my search for information about positioning in css I ran across a website called All About Css Positioning. It explained the very same things Mr. Batchelder showed us in class. This site explained the information with the metaphor of a swiss army knife. It also gives links to pages where you can see the the positioning in actual use. We all had questions about when would you use this tye of thing. Also Check the site out because they have another part that talks about harnessing the power of css and how to use css to design. The site stopdesign talks about placing an absolute-positioned element within a relative-positioned element. I read the article and it seems a little confusing but I’m sure I”ve got a handle on what they are saying. If  you read the article and get something different than let me know. It’s saying that by placing an absolute positioning inside a relative one gives you a lot more control over sizing issues. My fianl site on css positioning is one that I will be referencing during the building of my final project. I plan on making several different external style sheets to my project. It will be very useful in the fact that I won’t have to redo all the code. All I will have to do is copy the style sheet link. I really see the power of css on this site. he tutorial on the site is extremely helpful. If you are having troubles with css then i suggest you check it out.

Website Research

9 08 2009

In my research for my final web design project I ran across a  number of fitness websites that were not very aesthetically pleasing. There were a few that I ran across like fitnesstogether. I thought the layout was good really simple and easy to navigate. The next sight I seen was personal power training. I really didn’t like the layout of  the site at all. What I did like was the navigation the site offered. I like it because it’s simple and easy for the user to find what the are looking for. The site I liked the best which wasn’t really a personal trainer site but deals with fitness is muscle and strength. I think it feels a little cluttered but the information offered on the site is tremendously helpful. Out of all the sites I visited this is the one that captured me the most. I spent a lot of time on here looking at all the information. Fitness Anywhere was a site that I looked over and I was really fond of the e-commerce part of the site. It breaks everything down to real simple categories. Out of all the sites I seen Online fitness trainers was  appealing visually. I think the front page has entirely to much text. All the pages had to much text honestly. It could be broken down into different segments. I like the aesthetics of the site though and the articles on recently written.

Float Layouts

3 08 2009

I think float layouts are great. I like the way that such a simple  property can add a sophisticated look to your site when applied correctly. I’ll admit that sometimes I have a little problem with getting them to do what I want to. What I really want to do is learn how create an entire web layout using float. After all the articles I’ve read they talk about the fragility of float layout. I don’t understand what that means though. I don’t think i’ve ever seen a web page break so I wouldn’t even know what it looked like. I do think that float is one of the more essential techniques that we are learning in the class.

Graphic design and web design can they coexist?

29 07 2009

There are many who believe that graphic designers and web designers cannot coexist in the same brain housing group. I think that they can but it will take some practice. The major part of crossing over is that print designers know what looks good on paper but that doesn’t work on screen always. Web has a limited color gamut and if your page has a long load time forget about having many visitors. Having a degree in graphic design for me helps a lot more when it comes to design but my problem is what i just stated above. What looks good on paper doesn’t look good on screen. I decided to go back to school to learn web design. I think that a lot of graphic designers are having to learn some sort of multimedia in order to stay relevant. Most job searches I do  require a little bit of experience or knowledge in web design. I believe that the jobs will become almost one in the same so it serves for any graphic designer to grab hold of some books or tutorials and get started.

Graphic and web.

web design is not just graphic-design for the web

What is web design to me?

20 07 2009

Web design to me is a new way to communicate our designs and ideas to a much larger audience. I believe web design can be a rewarding career as far as design and financially. It is a career that for the mean time is safe and rapidly growing. I think to some degree everyone wants to be on the web. When people find out that you know how ar are learning to create web pages they all of a sudden want a web page. I believe web design is a very profitable skill and will help some create very profitable careers.

3 Artist Selection

5 05 2009

The three artist I selected are Alphonse Mucha, Shepard fairey, and Doyald young. I chose Alphonse Mucha because I love illustrations. He illustrated alot of women and the colors he used were very vibrant. I didn’t really see much that i didn’t like about his work. My next artist was Shepard Fairey. He is also an illustrator. Of course we all like the portrait illustrations he has done of Barack Obama. The rest of his stuff is really good. What I don’t like about his work are some of  the images he has done of buildings. My third and final Artist is Doyald Young. He was a type designer. I like the script fonts he did. The look so elegant and crafty. I’m really not big on typography so I won’t say i don’t like the rest of his stuff just the script really stood out to me. I’ll be doing my final project on Shepard Fairey. I feel that my artistic style best resembles his (im not saying we’re identical just if i had to compare.)

XHTML and CSS

8 12 2008

Xhtml  is different than html because it is more compatible with XML. what doe that mean? I have no freakin’ idea. From what i understand it is simpler to  create new languages I guess. I’ll stop there because I don’t have any idea what it is or what i’m talking about. CSS is a little simpler for me to explain. It is a style sheet for the content of your website. It can control the background color, text, and output of your web content.

These are important because new ways of accessing the internet are always popping up and this allows these new languages to work I think. If you know what this is really for please comment and get me on the right track.

Podcasting

1 12 2008

Pod casting is perhaps the latest and greatest stream of information for this high speed world we live in. Allowing you to take the information you want or need with you. Traditionally if there were a broadcast on radio or television such as the presidential radio address, but you miss it because you had to work. The best you could do is hope to catch it later but there is no guarantee. With podcasting you can catch it all and listen to it later. This comes in handy for your website in several ways. If you have a devoted following that follows every word you say but can’t be ever where you are than a podcast would be ideal. This way they are able to access the seminar and stay informed on what it is you are doing. From the video I watched “Podcasting in plain english” it says that all you need is a microphone, video camera(for vodcasting), a computer, and internet connection. I’ve used vodcast before. While designing i often have a design vision but I don’t know how to complete it. The video was so much more helpful than just reading the text. Sometimes the text can become very difficult to understand. The video shows exactly what is going on and turn out to be more helpful because I can rewind the video and see the effects on screen. As with video and audio it can captivate the attention of viewers. They are useful for explaining more in depth. Screen casting is useful and have been useful especially for me. These also are helpful when looking to do certain things. I had no idea this is what it was called. This more of what you see when you look at online tutorials. They have these for all sort applications and projects. To me it’s so helpful like the vodcast but more precise and direct.
